Switzerland ready to freeze Russian assets - President Ignazio Cassis

According to Swiss President Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland is to impose sanctions against Russia on Monday and, following the EU, will freeze Russian assets.

According to him, Switzerland’s neutrality must be maintained. Switzerland is ready to offer its services for diplomacy if the negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian representatives on the Belarus border will not be successful, for example, by reaching the truce.

«However that does not prevent us from calling things by their names,» – he added.

According to Swiss National Bank data, in 2020, Russians kept near 10.4 Swiss francs ($11.24 billion) in the country’s banks.

Today the UK government imposed new sanctions against Russian Federation as a response to the aggression against Ukraine. In particular, the sanctions are imposed against the Russian Central Bank, the Russian National Welfare Fund, and the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
