Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant platform in Energodar has been seized by the Russian forces, the press center of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration reports citing State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine. 

“Operational staff controls the condition of the power units and ensures their operation under the requirements of technological regulations of the safe operations,” says the statement. The information was confirmed by the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom.” 

“Administrative building and checkpoint at the Zaporizhzhia NPP are controlled by occupiers. The station staff continues working on power units, ensuring the stable operation of nuclear facilities. Background radiation is at the normal level,” the statement says. 

Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the Ukrainian defenders of the station. 

On the night of March 4, occupiers shelled Zaporizhzhia NPP in Energodar. As of 6:20 a.m., the fire at the training building of Zaporizhzhia NPP in Energodar was put out. It was reported that there were no victims or injured. 

Ukraine told IAEA that the fire at the platform of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant did not affect the “basic” equipment, the personnel of the station was taking mitigating measures. 

Due to the fire at the Zaporizhzhia NPP caused by the Russian army’s shelling, IAEA has launched a response center. 

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recorded a video message about the Russian military’s shellings and the fire at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and urged world leaders to stop Russia. 

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, promised Zelenskyy to urgently convene the UN Security Council over Russia’s shelling of Zaporizhzhia NPP.
