US President Joe Biden discussed with President Volodymyrr Zelenskyy the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant by the Russian occupiers.

This was reported by the Voice of America.

Biden called on Russia to cease hostilities in the ZNPP area and provide firefighters and rescue services access to the station.

The White House also said that US President continues to receive information about the situation, and he discussed this issue with the Deputy Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security of the US Department of Energy and the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Reuters later reported that the fire broke out on the perimeter of the nuclear power plant. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine also said that the current state of fire safwety at ZNPP is within the norm.

We’d like to remind that the fire on ZNPP broke out owing to shelling by the Russian military. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba wrote about this in his Twitter. The information about the fire was confirmed by the mayor of Energodar.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the West to stop Russia in order to prevent the death of Europe from the catastrophe at the nuclear power plant.

"Europe must wake up now: Europe's largest nuclear power plant is on fire. Right now. Russian tanks are firing nuclear units. These tanks are equipped with thermal imagers. That is, they know where to fire. They have been preparing for this. I appeal to all Ukrainians, all Europeans, who are familiar with the word "Chornobyl", who know how much grief and casualties the explosion at the nuclear power plant brought. It was a global catastrophe. Hundreds of thousands of people fought with its consequences, tens of thousands of people were evacuated. Russia wants to repeat this and is already repeating the scenario but it is six times more dangerous," the President said in his statement.

"Europeans, wake up, please. Tell your politicians Russian troops are shelling the nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. The city of Energodar. There are 6 power units! One exploded in Chornobyl," Zelenskyy stressed.

The Prime Minister of the UK Boris Johnson promised Zelenskyy to urgently convene the UN Security Council over Russia's shelling of the ZNPP.
