On 7 March, a deputy of Verkhovna Rada of the 8th convocation, Oleksandr Marchenko, was killed in a battle with the occupiers near Kyiv's Pushcha-Vodytsia neighbourhood.
The news was announced by the head of “Svoboda”, Captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleh Tyahnybok, as reported by the press service of “Svoboda”.
"Rest in peace our brother Oleksandr Marchenko who died heroically in a battle with the occupiers near Pushcha-Vodytsia. A veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war since 2014. We will remember you, my friend! Hold a peaceful sky over Ukraine for us. Sincere condolences to all the relatives of those killed in the war against the Russian aggressor and may they rest in peace," said “Svoboda” deputy Oksana Savchuk.
Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Marchenko was born on 14 January, 1965 in the village of Rybchyntsi, Khmilnytskyy district, Vinnytsia region. He was a General Director of "Bila Tserkva Quarry" and a member of “Svoboda”. He lived in Bila Tserkva.
In the 2012 elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament), he ran for constituency No. 90 (Bila Tserkva) as a member of “Svoboda”. According to wet stamps protocols, he won the constituency, beating the pro-government candidate Vitalii Chudnovsky. However, due to the results being falsified in favor of the latter, the district election commission did not recognize his victory, despite a lawsuit against the falsifications. At that time, the Central Election Committee Deputy Chair, Zhanna Usenko-Chorna, and the observer mission of the World Congress of Ukrainians pointed out the expediency of declaring the election results invalid in constituency No. 90.
In the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2014, he ran again for constituency No. 90 from "Svoboda" and won with 23.66% of the vote. Second place went to the current chairman of the Kyiv regional council, Mykola Babenko, nominated by the “Bloc of Petro Poroshenko” party, who received 20.60% of the vote.
He was the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Construction and Architecture of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Construction, Urban Planning, Housing and Communal Services.
He was a member of the “Legion of Freedom” combatant association. In 2014 he was a fighter of the 72nd Brigade. On 10 August, 2014, he was wounded near Krasny Luch following the shelling of Ukrainian positions by the MLRS “Tornado”.
In May 2015, Roman Bochkala, a journalist with the Inter TV channel, accidentally met Oleksandr Marchenko in the anti-terrorist operation zone. The deputy was working to fortify the front line.
