Ukrainian books will be a separate exhibit in the fair central area

Ukraine to demonstrate empty display stand at Bologna Book Fair

Ukraine will present an empty display stand as a manifest at Bologna Children’s Book Fair this year, as reported by the press service of Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI), a state-run cultural organization.

“This is how Ukrainian book community is appealing to their international colleagues for support, so that next year they can return to Bologna Fair with the full book display,” - UBI states.

During the fair all visitors will have an opportunity to:

  • Take pictures/videos of Ukrainian book display to publish on personal social media accounts as well as official pages of their respective organizations to condemn Russian aggression and support Ukraine, using hashtags #StandWithUkraine, #StopRussianAggression;

  • Print stickers and posters with mottos to support Ukraine and place them at their book display - download here;

  • Find out about participation in UBI’s programs for translators (Translate Ukraine 2021 - program to support translations and Drahoman Prize - translators’ award)

  • Familiarize themselves with Ukrainian publishers’ rights catalogs (project - Literature for export)

Bologna Book Fair has granted Ukraine a free book display stand, refused Russia’s participation and called for the publishers to bring Ukrainian children’s books translated into other languages for the collaborative exhibit. Another book exhibit with 30 - 40 Ukrainian books will be displayed in the central area of the fair.

“We feel united in the opposition against Russian aggression when we have such support from our global book community. Ukrainian display stand and fair organizers’ support is an opportunity to speak out, find supporters and unite caring people from the book industry around the cause,” - the organizers say.

Frankfurt Book Fair stopped cooperation with the Russian Federation earlier.
