British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has stated that he would like to take part in the government's hosting program for Ukrainian refugees - Homes for Ukraine.
The actor says that it is impossible to ignore what is happening in Ukraine, so "everyone should do as much as they can," Reuters reports.
The new program of the British government Homes for Ukraine will allow members of the public, charities, businesses and community groups to offer housing for refugees, who can come to Britain, even if they have no family ties.
"It's a really shocking time to be a European living two and a half hours away from Ukraine, and that's what's sweeping over us," Cumberbatch said on the red carpet at the British Academy Film Awards in London's Royal Albert Hall.
"Everyone has to do everything in their power. We have a record number of people who have volunteered to host Ukrainians in their homes. I hope I will also be a part of that," Cumberbatch said.
A few days ago Cumberbatch expressed solidarity and support for Ukrainians in the war against Russia. At the award ceremony of the International Film Festival in Santa Barbara, the 45-year-old actor, who received the Cinema Vanguard award, raised the Ukrainian flag, which was handed to him by the audience, and spoke out against the Russian invasion of our country.
"I support Ukraine," he said.
