In Chernihiv, after shelling by Russian troops, the church of St. Theodosius of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) has burned down.
The secretary of the Chernihiv eparchy of the UOC-MP, archpriest Ihor Pydan, reported this according to Suspilne.media.
According to him, people hiding from shelling in the church's basement were evacuated by bus. The church burned down completely.
"People hiding in the church in the Yatsevo cemetery were evacuated. About a hundred people from the surrounding houses were hiding in the church. The evacuation took place under fire from Russian artillery," the priest said.
The cemetery church of St. Theodosius is the first church built in Chernihiv after Ukraine gained independence. The cathedral was consecrated in 1996.
On 13 March, Russian troops struck another attack on Chernihiv on the night. The bomb hit a high-rise building on Myru Avenue. As a result, floors 2 to 9 were destroyed andthe fire started. Seven people were rescued from the attacked house, one person died, and another was injured.
Earlier, on 12 March, Russian troops fired at the Holy Assumption Svyatogirska Lavra in the Donetsk region late in the evening. A rupture of an explosive device near the monastery caused the blast wave, which damaged the premises of the Lavra, where the brothers of the monastery and numerous refugees lived. Almost all the windows were broken, church buildings were destroyed and suffered various damage.
