Ukraine's Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk filed a lawsuit at BAGAC (the Supreme Court) against actions of the Israeli Government and personally against the Minister of Internal Affairs Ayelet Shaked, concerning the process of acceptance of Ukrainian refugees.

This was reported by "Interfax-Ukraine" with reference to Channel 12 ITB.

The complaint states that Minister Shaked violates previous agreements between Jerusalem and Kyiv regarding visa-free regime, using very “vague explanations”.

The ambassador noted that he decided to file a lawsuit after all diplomatic opportunities had been exhausted to protect Ukrainian asylum seekers.

The lawsuit emphasizes that the Israeli Minister of internal Affairs does not possess the authority to make a unilateral decision regarding the acceptance of refugees from Ukraine. The plaintiffs believe this issue should be decided on a government level in close cooperation with the Knesset Commission on International Affairs.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs allowed Ukrainian tourists legally staying in the country to stay for an additional two months.

Yesterday Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued talks on countering Russian aggression with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. The President of Ukraine proposed to hold talks with the President of the aggressor country, Volodymyr Putin, in Jerusalem with Bennett as mediator.

Today, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid condemned the invasion of Ukraine and called on Russia to end the war.
