Russia and Belarus have been suspended from the World Aquatics Championships in Hungary that will occur in June and Jule 2022. The International Swimming Federation (FINA) took this decision.

FINA punished the aggressors-countries by banning them from performing under their flag at the beginning of March. The national teams of the other countries were dissatisfied with this decision as not strict enough, that is why five countries declared their readiness to boycott the participation in the World Cup if Russian and Belarusian athletes take part in the competition. Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and Poland have taken the initiative.

The FINA decision applied only to the World Aquatics Championships. However, the International Swimming Federation said that the RF has announced that its athletes will miss all international competitions in 2022.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the international sports community banned or restricted the participation of Russians and Belarusians in various competitions. The Russian national team has been suspended from this summer's World Games, besides sanctions have affected the athletes in athletics, tennis, football, hockey, biathlon, handball, skating and figure skating, skiing, gymnastics, judo, boxing, volleyball, and rugby. International competitions, which were to occur in Russia in 2022, have been transferred to other countries.
