The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Romanian Parliament.

In his speech, he compared the active russian government to the Romanian regime of Ceausescu. Zelenskyy noted that "this regime was built only on intimidation, repression, cruelty and deception."

"There was nothing bright in it. The Romanian people rose up and defended themselves, saved their lives. By overthrowing the inadequate regime. That was the only way. Ceausescu, his wife, his environment, his Securitate – all of them could not be persuaded ... In the same way it is impossible to convince russia and those who propagate the war. Those who give criminal orders. Those who develop plans for the genocide of the Ukrainian people and the destruction of Ukraine. Those people are inadequate. They have lost any connection with reality and are willing to sacrifice millions of lives to put their crazy ideas into life. " Zelenskyy said.

In addition, according to the President of Ukraine, russia is openly calling for the genocide because of the confidence of russian top officials that "European leaders will not be able, they are weak. That Europe will lack leadership. And that European nations are unable to defend human values that unite the continent".

"Together we must stop these insane people who got used to impunity and therefore decided that they are allowed to do absolutely everything. Together we must stop those who want the genocide in Europe," the President of Ukraine claimed.

Ceausescu was leading Romania since 1965 as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and since 1974 as a president and prime minister additionally. Elena Ceausescu was a member of the Central Committee since 1972 and since 1980 she was also the First Deputy Prime Minister.

The Ceausescu regime was overthrown in December 1989. The dictator and his wife fled Bucharest which was surrounded by street riots, but they were captured by military rebels.

On December 25, 1989, Romanian TV broadcast a brief trial where Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu were accused of genocide and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out immediately after the broadcast ended.

In 2010, the remains of the Romanian dictator and his wife were exhumed for identification.
