Zelenskyy on new sanctions against russia: "This package looks impressive, but it's not enough"

"If there is no truly painful package of sanctions russia will see it as permission to move on".

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that sanctions against russia should be as severe as possible. Otherwise, the aggressor country will see it as permission to start a new bloody wave in the Donbass.

He stated this in a video message.

"Today Western countries have announced a new package of sanctions against russia: new investments are blocked, new restrictions are applied against several systemic banks in russia. Personal sanctions and other restrictions are added. This package looks impressive, but it is not enough," Zelenskyy said.

The President stressed that these restrictions can hardly be called commensurate with the evil committed by russian troops in Ukraine.

"If there will be no really painful package of sanctions against russia and no really needed supply of weapons, for which we have asked many times, russia will consider it as a permit. As a permit to move on. As a permit to pursue. As a permit to start new bloody wave in the Donbass" - Zelenskyy emphasized.

He added that Ukraine will continue to insist on a complete blockade of the russian financial system, and the democratic world's refusal from russian oil.

"We will continue to insist on a complete blockade of russia's banking system from international finance. We will also continue to insist on democratic world’s refusal from russian oil. Exactly oil export is one of the foundations of russia's aggression. And one of the reasons that the russian leadership can afford not to take seriously the negotiations about ending the war and liberation of Ukrainian territory. Some politicians are still undecided on how to limit the flow of oil dollars and oil euros to russia so as not to jeopardize their own economies," Zelenskyy said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba told about details of new sanctions against the aggressor country.

Commenting on the new restrictions, US President Joe Biden said they would "nullify russia's achievements in 15 years".
