Defence Ministry says prospect of attack on Kyiv to depend on situation in east

Demonstrative russian units remained on the territory of Belarus, which did not allow the defense forces to be transferred to the east and south of Ukraine.

Currently, there are no russian units in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions - they were partly knocked out, partly they left on their own. These units were transferred to the east of Ukraine. The issue of the attack on the capital depends on hostilities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

A major attack in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts may begin in the near future, and russia is already completing the restoration and transfer of its units. The Ukrainian army is ready for this, Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk told a briefing at the Ukrainian Media Center.

Russia continues to regroup in the Eastern Operational Zone. The main efforts are to prepare for the defeat of the Allied Forces, to establish full control over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and to secure a land corridor with Crimea.

The invaders are also trying to gain a foothold on the administrative borders of the Kherson region.

To demonstrate a presence to distract Ukrainian defense forces, the russians left parts of units in Gomel (Belarus), Bryansk, and Belgorod oblasts (russia). At the same time, the threat of air strikes from the territory of Belarus remains.

In the Slobozhansky direction, the russians continue to partially block Kharkiv, trying to break through in the direction of Izyum. In the direction of Dogvenky and Dmytrivka they tried to launch an offensive, but without success. The occupiers were pushed back to their previous positions.

Massive shelling of military and settlements continues in the Donetsk direction, and an assault is carried out along the line of contact. They are trying to capture Popasna, Rubizhne and Mariupol. In the area of this city, the invaders continue to storm the Azovstal area and the port. In total, over the past 24 hours in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the defenders repulsed four attacks, destroyed eight units of armored vehicles and five tanks and eight artillery systems.

In the Tavriya and Pivdennobuzhsky directions, the enemy conducts engineering equipment for positions, increases management systems and logistics. In the Chapaivka area, Russia has deployed an auxiliary control point and is hitting critical infrastructure.

Isolation continues in the Black and Azov Seas. The threat of missile weapons remains - the frigate "Admiral Makarov", a carrier of cruise missiles type "Caliber" is in the Blach Sea.

Kyiv region was liberated from the occupiers on April 2. To this day, demining continues there, and the search for the dead civilians is underway.
