The Ukrainian military leadership is checking information about the use of chemical weapons in Mariupol. According to preliminary assumptions, Russians could have used phosphorous bombs, Ms. Malyar, the Deputy Defense Minister, said in a phone conversation, UP informed.

"As of now, we are checking this information, trying to understand what it was. We can talk about preliminary data, there is an assumption that it is more likely phosphorus ammunition. The final official information will later be available," she said.

Ms. Malyar pointed out that the risk of using chemical weapons by Russia was quite high.

Yesterday, the British Ministry of Defense warned that there was a high probability that Russian troops would use phosphorus munitions in Mariupol.

In the evening, the Azov Regiment, which together with the Marines is defending Mariupol, said that at about 9.30 pm the Russian occupiers used a poisonous substance of unknown origin against the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in Mariupol.

According to Andriy Biletsky, the regiment's founder, three soldiers were affected. The Azovstal plant was attacked.

The United States have not yet confirmed the data about the chemical attack, Great Britain is checking this information.
