Russians exhume bodies in Mariupol to destroy evidence of war crimes - city council

The russian military also forbids burying Mariupol residents killed by them.

In Mariupol, the russian military began uncovering the graves of locals who were buried in the yards of residential neighborhoods. In addition, the occupiers forbid burying the people they killed.

The city council of Mariupol reported about it with reference to the people who remained in the city.

“There is a new level of "cleaning" by the occupiers. According to the Mariupol residents who are still in the city, russian troops have begun the process of exhuming bodies that were previously buried in the yards of residential buildings. Moreover, the occupiers forbid the burial of people killed by them. In each yard they put their guard, who does not allow Mariupol residents to bury their dead relatives or acquaintances. It is unknown why the exhumation is being carried out and where the bodies will be sent later," is said in the statement.

Considering that the Ukrainian intelligence has recorded 13 mobile crematoria in Mariupol, the City Council admits that the russian occupation forces are trying in every way to cover the tracks of their war crimes.

Earlier today, the commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade, which together with the Azov Regiment holds the defense of Mariupol, called on the authorities to unblock the city as soon as possible, either militarily or politically. Major Serhiy Volyna called the situation in Mariupol critical.
