IAEA restores connection with Chornobyl NPP

IAEA managed to restore the connection with the ChNPP, previously temporarily occupied by russian troops. That was stated by Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi, reports CNN. According to him, the connection was fully restored on the evening of April 19.

“It was an unsustainable situation, and it's very good news that the regulator can now connect directly with the plant when necessary,” Grossi said.

He noted that at the end of April, an IAEA expert mission plans to visit the ChNPP to assess nuclear safety, security and radiological protection, deliver vital equipment and repair remote monitoring systems.

Russian troops occupied the ChNPP for five weeks, from February 24 to March 31. The IAEA lost connection with the plant on March 10.
