During the conversation with Pope Francis, the head of the ROC Kirill (Gundyaev) devoted half of the conversation to justifying russia's war in Ukraine.
The pontiff said this in an interview with Corriere Della Sera.
“I spoke to Kirill 40 minutes after the zoom. The first twenty with a map in hand, he read me all the excuses for war. I listened and told him: I do not understand anything. Brother, we are not governmental clergy, we can not use the language of politics, and the language of Jesus. We are pastors of the same holy people of God. To this end, we must seek ways of peace to put an end to gunfire,” said Pope Francis.
The pontiff stressed that “the patriarch cannot become Putin's altar”.
We are reminding, that earlier Pope Francis reported that the meeting with the russian patriarch Kirill planned for June won't take place.
It has recently become known that the Pontiff has asked Vladimir Putin three times to provide a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol. However, the Kremlin has stated that it cannot provide security guarantees.
