The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he seeks to repel russian troops to their positions before a full-scale invasion and restore control over the entire territory of the state, including Crimea, through dialogue.
This statement was quoted by the Wall Street Journal at yesterday's summit.
The President believes that it will be difficult for the russians to admit defeat.
"They have a huge army. They want to drown us in the blood of our soldiers. They cannot tell their country that they have lost our unity, our modern army," - he said.
The President added that russia was trying to undermine the Ukrainian economy by blocking ports and causing $ 600bn in damage. After the end of hostilities, Ukraine will demand reparations from russia.
Zelensky stressed that Ukrainians would need Western help in the post-war reconstruction and invited foreign companies to join. Foreign investors need to get attractive conditions for doing business in Ukraine.
Earlier, the issue of Crimea was raised in the negotiations between the Ukrainian and russian delegations. According to Mykhailo Podoliak, the participant of the negotiating group, Crimea is a separate clause of the agreement in which the Ukrainian side proposes to hold bilateral talks on the status of Crimea and Sevastopol for 15 years.
In other words, it is proposed to note that Ukraine and russia will not use military or armed forces to resolve the Crimea issue for 15 years while negotiations take place but will continue their political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.
