The enemies do not stop conducting offensive operations in the Eastern operational area. Their main efforts are focused on the Donetsk area.
The General Staff of the UAF (Armed Forces of Ukraine) reported this information in the report of Tuesday morning, 17 May 2022.
Enemy aircraft were destroying the objects of civilian and military infrastructure in the Eastern operational area and industrial facilities deep in Ukraine.
In the Volyn and Polissia areas, the situation has not changed significantly; there still is the threat of missiles and airstrikes on the infrastructure of Ukraine from the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
In the Siversk area, the enemies continue to enhance the Ukrainian-russian border protection. In the area of the municipality of Bilokopytove in the Sumy region, the enemies fired mortars rounds at units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
In the Slobozhanshchyna area, the russians are concentrating their primary efforts on blocking the offensive of the Defense Forces units.
In the Kharkiv area, the enemies focus their primary efforts on maintaining their positions and preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops. The russians are reinforcing units, replenishing losses, and trying to resume the offensive in the Sloviansk area.
In the Donetsk area, the enemies continue firing mortars, artillery, multiple launch rocket systems rounds, and use aircraft.
In the Lyman area, the russians conducted offensive operations in the area of the municipality of Drobysheve. The enemies are strengthening their troops.
In the Sievierodonetsk area, near the municipality of Sryotyne, the russians suffered losses during the combat and withdrew.
In the Bakhmut area, there was a battle near the municipality of Vyskryva; the russians had no success.
In the Avdiivka area, there was a battle near the municipality of Kamianka; the russians had no success.
In the Kurakhiv direction, the enemies launched an offensive near the municipality of Vuhledar but had no success.
The enemies did not take active actions in the Novopavlivsk and Zaporizhzhia areas. They inflicted damage on the objects of civilian infrastructure in the areas of the municipalities of Kamianske, Orikhiv, Novosilka, and Huliaipole.
In the Pivdennyi Buh area, the enemy units did not take active actions. Still, they fired artillery and mortar rounds at Ukrainian units in the areas of the municipalities of Lymany, Tavriyske, Trudoliubivka, and Osokorivka.
In the Bessarabian area, in the Belhorod-Dniester district of the Odessa region, a missile strike from russian strategic aircraft damaged objects of civil infrastructure and destroyed private buildings.
In the Black Sea, near Zmiinyi island, the russians were conducting lifting and rescue operations at the site of the russian landing boat destruction.
During the previous day, the air defense units of the Ground Forces and the Air Forces hit five air targets: a Su-25 aircraft, three tactical UAVs, and a cruise missile. In addition, strike aircraft of the Air Forces continued to fire at the enemy from the air and support Ukrainian army units' fighting.
During the past 24 hours, UAF fought back eleven enemy attacks and destroyed five tanks, one anti-aircraft missile system "Thor," six artillery systems, twelve enemy military armored vehicles, and one vehicle of the russian enemies.
On 16 May 2022, the Supreme Military Command ordered the commanders of the units stationed at "Azovstal" to save the lives of personnel. The heroic defenders of Mariupol held the city for a long time and thus restrained the great forces of the russians.
