Zelenskyy called on American cities to end twinning relations with russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on American cities to sever their ties with russian cities so that russia cannot enjoy any relationship with the free world.

Zelenskyy stated this during a videocall with the participants of the 90th annual United States Conference of Mayors, according to the President's Office.

"We Ukrainians and Americans have the same understanding of the dangers of tyranny. The world has seen various dictatorships… All of them are united because they despise the rights and freedoms of ordinary people. Tyrants do not recognize the rights and freedoms of local government. And it is usually the free people in the cities who still choose freedom that put an end to the history of tyrants. And to put an end to this, tyrants must not be allowed to enjoy ties to the free world. Any connections, "- said Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy reminded everyone that dozens of American cities still have so-called twinning with Russian cities. In particular, Chicago with Moscow, Jacksonville with Murmansk, and San Diego with Vladivostok. According to him, these ties between the United States do not give anything, but they allow russia to say that it is not isolated, even after the full-scale invasion.

It should be noted that the event was opened by US Vice President Kamala Harris. The conference was attended by the mayors of Houston, Santa Fe, Madison, Columbus, and many other cities.

Earlier, the US Congress registered a bill to increase taxes for those who do business in Russia and Belarus.
