Ukrainian defenders have defeated one fifth of the russian occupying forces, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyy has said on Facebook.
He mentioned this figure during a telephone conversation with the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen Mark Milley.
"During today's phone conversation we once again compared our estimates of russian losses in this war. We note that the enemy is suffering significant losses, primarily in manpower - a fifth of the Russian Armed Forces units involved in the fighting in Ukraine have been defeated," Zaluzhnyy said.
He added that active combat operations today continue over 1,300 km of the front. Therefore, Ukraine badly needs to strengthen its artillery.
The commander-in-chief noted that he had made this request to his Ukrainian partners.
"I am very grateful to Gen Milley and the entire American nation for their effective support in defending our heroic people and the common values of freedom and democracy," Zaluzhnyy stressed.
According to the General Staff, as of 13 August, russian losses are estimated at 43,400.
