Three judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine resigned on Wednesday, 7 December, its press service has reported.

"At a special plenary session on Wednesday, 7 December, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine considered the resignation of CCU judges Iryna Zovhorodnya, Serhiy Sas and Ihor Slydenko on their request. Following the meeting, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine decided to grant their requests," it said.

It should be noted that the term of office of all three judges has not yet expired. Ihor Slydenko and Serhiy Sas's term of office would expire in the spring of 2023, and Iryna Zavhorodnya, who became a judge in 2018, still had a five-year mandate, according to the specialist publication Sudovo-Yurydychna Hazeta.

The reasons for the early resignation are currently unknown.

It should be noted that in October 2020, judge Slidenko, as a speaker in the case on the constitutional petition of 47 MPs, announced the decision of the CCU to abolish criminal liability for declaring false information. In addition, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the provisions of the laws on verification of e-declarations of officials and abolished the powers of the National Agency for Preventing Corruption (NAPC) to verify declarations and identify conflicts of interest.

Judges Zavhorodnya and Sas also supported the abolition of anti-corruption reform in October 2020.
