The head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy Region, Mykhaylo Kuratchenko, explosive expert Ihor Melnyk, K9 expert Serhiy Nenada and assistant to the duty officer of the Uman district police department, Vadym Perizhok, got killed having tripped a cascade of Russian mines in Kherson Region during stabilisation measures on 7 December, the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has said.

Four more police officers were wounded, doctors are fighting for their lives.

"Mykhaylo Kuratchenko personally headed the consolidated police detachment in Cherkasy Region. An effective manager, strong-willed and brave policeman who always followed the oath," Klymenko said.

He added that the police officers fulfilled their duty: they served, protected, returned peace and security to the de-occupied part of Kherson Region.
