A nuclear power unit, which was disabled by Russian missile fire, has been connected to the Ukrainian power grid. This is the ninth power unit to be connected to the grid, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said. He noted that the power unit had not been functioning after the shelling on 23 November.
"This is yet another step towards the stability of the energy system. All 9 power units of national nuclear power plants located on the territory controlled by Ukraine work to meet the needs of the country's population and economy," he said.
Russians continue to block the switching on the power units of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, which continues to consume more than 100 MW of electricity for its own needs from the Ukrainian energy system.
Since 10 October, the Russian army has been targeting energy facilities with missiles and attack drones. The regions of Ukraine have faced a constant shortage of electricity, which has led to both stabilization and emergency blackouts.
The General Staff emphasizes that the threat of attacks on energy facilities persists. The previous attempt of a massive strike took place early last week, on 5 December.
