Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who presides over this year's G7 summit to be held in Hiroshima on 19-21 May, is coordinating an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to attend the event, Nikkei has reported.

Kishida plans to invite Zelenskyy to talk about the current situation in Ukraine, in particular the issues of food and energy security that have arisen as a result of the Russian invasion.

It is assumed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take part in the summit in an online format.

Indian Prime Minister Modi, who presides over the G20 summit this year, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who presides over ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), may also be invited to the summit.
