Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christerrson announced the intention to transfer Archer self-propelled artillery systems, 50 Stridsfordon 90 infantry fighting vehicles, and NLAW anti-tank missiles to Ukraine, the European Pravda reports.
This is the tenth package of military aid that Sweden will provide to Ukraine. It consists of three parts, one of which is for Archer self-propelled artillery systems, which require additional training to be delivered. Christersson has instructed to carry out such training.
"Ukraine's desire to get what they need most is of great importance," he said.
The government does not provide any information on how many Archers Sweden will transfer to Ukraine, but it is likely to be Archer Bs, which are stored in warehouses and of which there are 24 in Sweden.
The Archer self-propelled artillery system is widely recognized as one of the most advanced artillery systems in the world, capable of firing projectiles up to 50 kilometres.
Stridsfordon 90 combat vehicles in the amount of 50 units are also included in the latest batch of aid for Ukraine and can be delivered within a few months.
"It's a great machine in every single aspect," said Swedish Energy Minister Ebba Busch.
In addition, Sweden will send NLAW anti-tank systems.
"They're relatively easy to use, don't take a lot of time to train, and have a good potential to disable Russian tanks," Bush said.
The aid package also includes grenade launchers, anti-tank guns, automatic weapons and demining equipment. The total cost of the package is SEK 4.3 billion. According to the government, this amount does not include the Archer self-propelled guns.
