The situation around Bakhmut remains difficult. Wagner Group assault units are advancing from several areas.
"Wagnerites" are trying to break through the defence of Ukrainian troops and advance to the central districts of the town, the Commander of the Land Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyy, said.
"In the course of fierce battles, our defenders inflict significant losses on the enemy. All enemy attempts to capture the town are being repelled by artillery, tanks and other firepower. Fortress defence is ongoing!" the Ukrainian Military Center quoted him as saying.
The Russian occupiers have been trying to completely capture Bakhmut for many months. Occupying the town would allow the enemy to advance deeper into Donetsk Region.
Syrskyy emphasized that each day of the town's defence allows the Ukrainian army to gain time to prepare reserves and get ready for future offensive operations.
