The Ukrainian parliament has changed the dates for the celebration of Christmas, Ukrainian Statehood Day, and Defender of Ukraine Day.

The law amending Article 73 of the Labour Code of Ukraine (bill No. 9431) was supported by 241 MPs.

Christmas will now be officially celebrated on 25 December instead of 7 January, Ukrainian Statehood Day on 15 July instead of 28 July, and Defender of Ukraine Day on 1 October instead of 14 October. These changes will be implemented in the Labour Code of Ukraine.

However, the date of Easter and some other holidays will remain unchanged.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted the corresponding bill to parliament on 28 June. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (PCU) has decided to switch to the new Julian calendar starting from 1 September 2023.
