Speaking to the House of Commons, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that on 24 August, Russia fired missiles at a civilian cargo ship in the Black Sea.

According to Sky News, this is based on declassified data.

The Prime Minister said that the Russian military used several missiles in the attack late last month.

Sunak also spoke about his participation in the G20 summit last week.

According to the head of the British government, he aimed to "increase diplomatic pressure on Russia" and "expose their shameful disruption of global food supplies in the Black Sea." Sunak's second goal is to show the world that "democratic countries like the UK, not authoritarian regimes, are leading the fight against global problems like development and climate change."

The PM added that for two years now, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has "lacked the courage to meet face to face with his G20 colleagues."

According to Sunak, in just one month, Russia has destroyed more than 270,000 tons of grain, enough to feed a million people for a year. So, at the G20 summit, he and his fellow leaders "shouted about the human suffering caused by Putin's war."

The British Prime Minister emphasised that Ukraine has the right to trade through international waters and the moral right to feed the world with grain.

Earlier, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly warned that Russia could intensify its campaign to destroy Ukraine's food exports. To do this, Russia may fire at civilian ships in the Black Sea.

Cleverly promised to address the UN on this issue.

The same warning was voiced by the White House National Security Council spokesman Adam Hodge. According to him, Russia could expand its targeting of Ukrainian grain facilities, including attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea.
