Since February 2022, 19,740 men have illegally crossed the border of Ukraine, and another 21,113 people have been caught trying to flee abroad. The BBC reports this with reference to data from Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Slovakia.

It is noted that most of those who wanted to escape (14,313 men) wanted to cross the border on foot or swim across rivers. In addition, 6,800 men tried to use forged documents, which, in particular, indicated that the fugitive allegedly had an illness.

According to the President's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Fedir Venyslavskyy, 1-5% of men are trying to avoid mobilisation. He noted that evaders "are not crucial for the defence of Ukraine".
