Ukraine, with the participation of the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, started bilateral talks on concluding a bilateral security agreement with Romanian State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iulian Fota, on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of national security advisers and political advisers to the heads of state on the implementation of the Peace Formula in Davos, Switzerland.
"The talks were launched pursuant to the president's instruction within the framework of the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine. They marked an upgrade of bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. This was a logical continuation of the agreements following the telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Romania on 9 January 2024 and a step towards the implementation of the Joint Declaration of the leaders of the two states of 10 October 2023," the presidential office said in a statement.
The presidential office noted that Romania became the ninth country to start bilateral security talks with Ukraine and reaffirmed its unwavering support for its independence and territorial integrity, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic path.
According to the deputy head of the presidential office, Ihor Zhovkva, it is impossible to imagine full security guarantees in Europe, in particular in the Black Sea region, without Romania.
