The attack by Ukrainian drones on the night of 18 January on an oil depot in the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation was a special operation by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Ukrainska Pravda reports, citing sources.

"This is a DIU operation involving modern Ukrainian means. Data collection continues, and there are confirmed hits on targets. From now on, military facilities in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region are within reach of Ukrainian forces," the source said.

The intel also said that this was not the first time Ukrainian drones had attacked the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation. "Not for the first time, but there are differences, and the enemy has noticed them," the source said.

On the morning of 18 January, the Russian defence ministry reported an attack by Ukrainian drones, in particular in the Leningrad Region, and a UAV was allegedly shot down.

For its part, Astra reported that the drone exploded on the territory of an oil depot.

The Petersburg Oil Terminal is the largest Russian oil transshipment terminal in the Baltic region.
