The Ukrainian defence minister has suspended from office the interim acting director of the Department of Military Technical Policy, Development of Arms and Military Equipment, Toomas Nakhkur, who was served with a notice of suspicion on 27 January.
Rustem Umerov signed the decision to suspend him on 1 February, the ministry said in a statement. The reason is the suspicion in criminal proceedings.
"By the decision of the Defence Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umerov of 1 February 2024, at the request of the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havrylyuk, the acting director of the Department of Military-Technical Policy, Development of Arms and Military Equipment of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine Toomas Nahkur was suspended from duty," the ministry said.
Toomas Nahkur became the head of the procurement department last year, after the dismissal of the previous head, Oleksandr Liyev. In January, both of them were suspected of embezzlement over deals with Lviv Arsenal and a Slovak supplier.
