Over the two years of full-scale war, Ukrainians have become the second largest group of foreigners in Germany. In January 2022, the number of Ukrainians living in Germany was 138,000, and in October 2023, it was 1.15 million, the Russian-language bureau of Deutsche Welle reports, citing statistics.

Thus, their share among the German population increased to 1.4%, making them the second largest group after the Turks (1.39 million - 1.6%). As of October, most Ukrainians lived in four federal states: North Rhine-Westphalia (234,000), Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony (114,000). In 2023, about 277,000 new Ukrainians were registered in Germany, and 156,000 left. In 2022, 1.1 million Ukrainians moved from Ukraine to Germany, while 138,000 left. Women made up 68% of those who arrived, and 34% were minors. Elderly people aged 60 and over accounted for 11% (the same number of elderly people arrived in 2023).
