The Ukrainian film 20 Days in Mariupol won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. It is the first Ukrainian film in history to receive this award.

The film was created by Mstyslav Chernov, Yevhen Malolyetka and Vasylysa Stepanenko. The film documents the Russian occupation of Mariupol.

"I am grateful. But I will probably be the first director on this stage to say that I would not like to make this film. I would like to be able to exchange the award for Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities, for Russians not killing tens of thousands of Ukrainians. I would give it [the Oscar] so that they would release all the hostages, the soldiers who defended our land, the civilians who are in their prisons," Chernov said after the award ceremony (quote provided by BBC Ukraine).
