On 4 April, the United States handed over to the Ukrainian military weapons and ammunition that had been confiscated as part of a lawsuit against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This was announced on 9 April by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Ukraine received more than 5,000 AK-47 rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPG-7s and more than half a million rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. This amount is enough to equip one brigade.
"The government took possession of this ammunition on 1 December 2023 as part of the Department of Justice's civil forfeiture action against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)," CENTCOM said.
The munitions were originally seized by the US military and partner navies on four separate stateless transit vessels between 22 May 2021 and 15 February 2023. The weapons and armaments were sent from the IRGC to the Junta in Yemen, in violation of a UN Security Council resolution.
