In March 2024, at least 604 civilians, including 57 children, were killed or injured as a result of Russian shelling in Ukraine.
This is stated in the report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has confirmed that at least 604 civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine in March 2024, which is 20% more than in February 2024.
"The increase in civilian casualties in March was mainly due to attacks by the Russian armed forces using missiles and ammunition across Ukraine, as well as increased aerial bombardment near the front line," the report says.
The report notes that in March 2024, at least 57 children were killed or injured in Ukraine, which is twice as many as in February.
These losses were the result, in particular, of the increased use of guided and unguided aerial bombs.
At least 28 civilians were killed and injured by mines, including 7 agricultural workers. The start of the spring agricultural season increased the risks for farmers.
The majority of civilian casualties (93.5 per cent), destruction of educational and medical facilities (98 per cent) and critical infrastructure (95 per cent) were recorded in government-controlled areas, the report added.
The large-scale attacks on critical infrastructure also destroyed or damaged at least 20 energy facilities across the country, temporarily disrupting access to electricity for millions of people in major cities and rural areas. Water supplies were also disrupted in some areas.
