President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the newly appointed Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Laurynas Kasčiūnas during his first foreign visit in this position. This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The Head of State thanked Lithuania for its comprehensive assistance and readiness to support Ukraine to victory. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of Lithuania's continued leadership in the international coalition for demining and the development of cooperation in the defence industry.
"Thank you for your support, for everything you have been doing since the beginning of the full-scale war. I know that our teams are working on a document on security guarantees. We expect that it will lay a new foundation for strengthening the defence of our states," the President stressed.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukrainians are especially grateful for Lithuania's financial contribution to the implementation of the Czech initiative to purchase artillery ammunition and for the allocation of funds for a batch of drones.
According to the Head of State, it is extremely important for Ukraine that partner countries make decisions on timely and unimpeded supply of much-needed equipment, weapons and ammunition.
The parties also discussed further comprehensive support from Lithuania, particularly in the training of Ukrainian servicemen and the implementation of rehabilitation programmes for wounded defenders.
Last week, Ukraine and Lithuania held talks on a bilateral security agreement. At the meeting, they agreed on a timetable for the preparation of the document.
