US presidential candidate Donald Trump was shot at during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. This was reported by the Associated Press, The New York Times, and The New-York Post.

According to AP, after hearing the shots, Trump touched his ear and then sat down on the ground. Blood could be seen on his face. The Secret Service hastily removed Trump from the stage and evacuated him from the rally.

The US presidential candidate's campaign headquarters reported that the politician was examined at a local hospital and that his life was not in danger.

The shooting is being investigated as an attempted assassination of Trump. The investigation is led by the FBI, but other agencies will join in. There is no information yet on the attacker's motives.

The New-York Post wrote that the alleged attacker on Trump has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The man was sitting on a roof more than 119 metres from the stage at the Butler Farm Show.

Butler District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed that the shooter was on the roof and fired from a distance of "several hundred yards".

The shooting also left a number of people dead, The New York Times reports. The US Secret Service said that one of the rally participants and the alleged attacker was killed, and two other people are in serious condition. The shooter was killed by the Secret Service.

Trump has already commented on the shooting. He said that the bullet had injured the top of his right ear and he was bleeding heavily. He expressed his condolences to the deceased at the rally and thanked the US Secret Service.

After the incident, Trump flew out of Pennsylvania and landed in New Jersey to spend the night at his private golf club.

US President Joe Biden condemned the shooting at Trump's rally. He was briefed in detail about the incident and tried to speak to Trump and his doctors.

It is known that Biden interrupted his trip to Delaware and returned to the White House. Later, he will be briefed by Homeland Security and law enforcement officials on the attempted assassination of Trump.

According to CNN, Trump sent a short letter to his supporters: "I will never give up!”
