The commander of the National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, believes that in a month and a half, Russian troops will lose the ability to conduct active assaults in many areas at once and will go on the defensive there. He said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
During this time, Ukraine needs to form and train units. It also needs to find the Russia's weaknesses.
"But the Russia's offensive capabilities are not unlimited, and they will suffer losses... I think another month and a half will be enough, and they will not be able to conduct active assaults in many directions at once and will go on the defensive in any case. And during this time, we need to form our units and prepare them," Pivnenko said when asked about his current assessment of the situation.
At the same time, the head of the National Guard admitted that fundamental changes take time, especially systemic ones.
"We need to develop. If we are always one step ahead and think about the future, everything will be fine. The most important thing that can be done now is training, development of training centres, procurement of weapons, military equipment, production of military equipment, drones, armoured vehicles, air defence systems, man-portable air defence systems, and ammunition by our country," he said.
