During his visit to China, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba visited the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He met with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The interlocutors discussed the creation of new opportunities for trade and investment between Ukraine and Hong Kong in the context of the restoration of our country.
Kuleba also called on the Hong Kong Administration to take measures to prevent Russia and Russian companies from using Hong Kong to circumvent sanctions imposed for the war against Ukraine.
The Minister stressed that these restrictive measures are necessary to weaken Russia's capacity to wage war and kill people in Ukraine. He stressed that ‘Russian machinations should not tarnish Hong Kong's reputation as a highly developed liberal economy based on unwavering respect for the rule of law’.
Kuleba also discussed the protection of the rights of Ukrainian citizens in Hong Kong.
In April, it was reported that the European Union was preparing new sanctions against a dozen companies in Turkey, China, the UAE and Hong Kong that continued to supply banned goods to Russia.
