On the night of 26 July 2024, Russia attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and Shahed-type strike UAVs.
According to Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, the enemy launched the missile from the Rostov Region of Russia in Donetsk Region, while the drones flew from Cape Chauda in Crimea and from the Russian city of Kursk.
The Air Force's radio engineering troops detected and escorted 22 Shaheds. 20 of them were shot down by air defences in Kherson, Sumy, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv Regions.
The air attack was repelled by mobile firing groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, anti-aircraft missile troops and Air Force electronic warfare units.
