Night attack on Ukraine: air defence shoots down four of six missiles, 15 of 16 UAVs

The enemy used ballistics and guided missiles. 

On the night of 6 August, the Russian army attacked Ukrainians with missiles of various types, including four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles. They struck Kyiv Region from Voronezh Region.

The Russians also launched two X-59 guided missiles from the airspace over the Sea of Azov and 16 Shahed attack UAVs from Cape Chauda - Crimea, Kursk - Russia. Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down 15 drones and four missiles, Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Telegram

"As a result of the anti-aircraft battle, two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, two X-59 guided missiles and 15 attack UAVs were shot down in Kyiv, Kherson, Mykolayiv and Khmelnytskyy Regions," he said.

The attack was repelled by mobile firing groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, anti-aircraft missile troops and airborne electronic warfare units.

  • One of the Russian targets during the night attack was Kyiv, where explosions were heard. The Kyiv CMA reported air defence operations in the city and its suburbs. The capital's authorities did not publish any information about the destruction.
