Ukraine's operation in the Kursk Region is not over. The defenders will use the experience of the offensive to liberate the occupied territories, said Vadym Skibitskyy, Deputy Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, during a discussion within the New Country project "Justice as a key tool for state development".

The Kursk operation was launched on the basis of the experience gained in Kherson and Kharkiv Regions, as well as last year. The current offensive by the Defence Forces has several advantages.

"This is the next operation that allows us to gain real combat experience in conducting offensive operations. And it is very positive that this experience is necessary for the liberation of our territories," he said.

The Kursk operation has become a top story in the world because it is an operation against a nuclear power and a country that demands negotiations only on its own terms.

"It will change a lot in the relations between our country and the international community towards Ukraine. The operation is ongoing. Russia is planning a response - there are plans, we know about them. Our government and military leadership know about them in order to continue the operation and disrupt the plans," Skibitskyy said.

  • On 6 August, the Russians started talking about breaking through the border in the Kursk Region. Until 12 August, Ukraine remained silent, and then the president and commander-in-chief officially confirmed the offensive.
  • As of 15 August, Ukrainian troops had advanced 35 kilometres, taking control of an area of 1,150 square kilometres, or 82 settlements. As of 19 August, Ukraine controlled 92 settlements. A military commandant's office is being set up on this territory to keep order and provide Russian civilians with the necessary supplies.
  • The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained that Kyiv is not interested in seizing other people's territories, and that the purpose of the Kursk operation is, among other things, to disrupt Russian logistics in other areas and to protect residents of Sumy Region who were killed by Russians from the territory of Kursk Region. In addition, the offensive helps replenish the exchange fund. Thanks to this, Ukraine will be able to release its people from Russian torture chambers.
