Ukraine intends to create a Ministry of Unity to work with the Ukrainian community abroad.

This was reported to LB.ua by sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The idea to create such an agency appeared two months ago in the Foreign Ministry and was approved by the Presidential Office. It was also discussed at the annual meeting of ambassadors held in Kyiv.

In his speech to the heads of foreign diplomatic missions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of working with the Ukrainian community outside our country.

This idea was elaborated on today by Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council. He stressed that there is a trend where there are more ethnic Ukrainians abroad than in Ukraine. This situation is reminiscent of the Irish scenario, in which the size of the diaspora is many times larger than the population within the state, and a strong community helps its homeland to develop.

The NSDC Secretary emphasised that Ukraine should become a ‘hub for all Ukrainians’, which will be able to provide job opportunities, good education for children, and at the same time, Ukrainians will be able to live wherever they want.

Currently, there is no single concept for the creation of the Ministry of Unity, what its powers and functions should be, and who will head the new structure.
