Russians are spreading false information that the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly carried out a chemical attack in the Kursk region because they were unable to break through Russian defences.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
‘According to ru-propagandists, the Ukrainian army, in violation of international law, used chemical weapons on Russian positions. In fact, this is another fake. Firstly, Ukraine is a signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention and strictly adheres to its international obligations. Secondly, the racists do not provide any evidence, which is also a sign of fake news,’ the statement said.
At the same time, Russian military commanders themselves occasionally distribute videos showing the use of chemical weapons by Russian troops against Ukrainian positions, which is a war crime and a blatant violation of the laws of war.
‘The dissemination of such messages is part of the Kremlin's strategy of an information response to the events in the Kursk Region,’ the CPD noted.
