Russian troops are making more tactical gains around the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk Region. This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence in its review.
Vuhledar has been a long-term target for Russian forces. The city's defence allowed the Ukrainian military to hold back Russian offensives in southern Donetsk Region.
The British noted that Russian troops had previously made numerous attempts to storm Vuhledar. This led to heavy losses in order to gain small territories.
"However, in August 2024, Russian troops advanced east and west of Vuhledar, taking control of the neighbouring village of Prechystivka and fighting for Vodyane," the British Ministry of Defence said.
Next month Russia is likely to continue its attempts to advance near the city and threaten Vuhledar itself.
