The military of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a joint operation that resulted in the mining and explosion of railway tracks in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation on 10 September, NV reports, citing sources in the Defence Forces.
The explosion occurred on the Staryy Oskol - Valuyki section. As a result of the operation, a freight train that met the logistical needs of the Russian army derailed.
According to sources, the locomotive and 11 carriages of the train overturned after the explosion.
This section of the Russian railway is currently paralysed, the Defence Forces added.
On 11 September, Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that a train derailed near Novy Oskol as a result of "external interference", with no injuries. The Russian Investigative Committee opened a case of a "terrorist attack".
