On the night of 12 September 2024, Russia attacked Ukraine with 69 air means. In particular, it launched 64 Shaheds and 5 missiles of various types. As a result of the air battle, 44 attack UAVs were shot down. This is stated in the Air Force report.

Russian forces attacked Chernihiv Region with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from Kursk Region and one X-59/69 guided missile from Bryansk Region. They also attacked with two X-22/32 cruise missiles from Tu-22M3 aircraft from the airspace above the Black Sea in the direction of Zmiyinyy Island.

The Russians launched 64 Shahed strike UAVs from Kursk, Yeysk in Russia and Cape Chauda in Crimea. The Russia's air attack was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

Three Russian drones flew back to Russia, while four more were lost locally on the territory of Ukraine (no information on casualties or damage was received).

As of 9.00 a.m., four attack UAVs remain in Ukrainian airspace, and combat operations are underway.

Thanks to the active counteraction of the Defence Forces, most of the Russian missiles did not reach their intended targets.

Air defences were deployed in Kyiv, Kherson, Khmelnytskyy, Cherkasy, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhya and Poltava Regions.
