Based on the SBU materials, 64 officials of medical and social expert commissions have already been suspected, and more than 4106 disability certificates, which were granted on the basis of fictitious documents, have been cancelled.

This was announced by SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk following a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council.

He noted that 64 officials of the MMC have been suspected of committing crimes, and another 9 have already been convicted.

‘The Security Service systematically counteracts threats to state security, in particular those that harm the country's defence capability. Among other things, it is actively working on the facts of abuse in the MMC system, which have an extremely negative impact on mobilisation processes. We already have results and will continue to counteract such shameful phenomena as rigorously as possible,’ Malyuk said.

In addition, the SBU exposed and terminated the activities of 8 organised criminal groups, which included representatives of the MMC in different regions:

In Kharkiv Region , an organised criminal group of 13 members of the regional MMC was neutralised. During searches, more than $650,000 was seized from them. The officials were selling fake medical certificates to evaders to be removed from the military register for health reasons.

In Rivne Region, another 29 representatives of local MMCs and medical advisory commissions were exposed for helping persons liable for military service evade mobilisation. In exchange for money, the defendants drew up fictitious medical histories for their clients with the subsequent assignment of disability groups. In this way, the officials received over $350,000 in ‘profit’.

In Mykolaiv, the head of the regional MSEC was exposed, who had more than $450,000, a collection of gold items and three undeclared apartments in Odesa. To conceal this wealth, the official ‘re-signed’ most of the property to her son, a medical student with Russian citizenship.

In Transcarpathian Region, the head of the regional MMC and three of his accomplices were exposed for issuing disability certificates to evaders for various amounts of bribes. The SBU is checking the involvement of the head of the regional MMC in the criminal scheme.

In addition, the SBU is checking the facts of illegal disability by individual officials: to date, these checks cover almost 2,400 such people.

Malyuk noted that the SBU is cooperating with the Ministry of Health, as well as the National Police and the State Bureau of Investigation.
