Units 3 and 4 of Khmelnytskyy NPP will operate only on fuel from the US company Westinghouse or fuel produced in Ukraine using Westinghouse technology, like the rest of the operating nuclear units.
This was announced by Energoatom.
The company says that Ukraine has finally abandoned Russian nuclear fuel and 100% of all purchases from 2022 will be made from the US-based Westinghouse.
‘This is explicitly stated in the government's draft law No. 11146 - KhNPP units 3 and 4 will operate exclusively on nuclear fuel produced using American technology,’ Energoatom said.
- Last month, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova said that Ukraine had not consulted with the EU when drafting a bill on the completion of Khmelnytskyy NPP units. In addition, the EU will not finance this project because the bloc has different positions on nuclear energy.
